About the Program
The wedding industry is readily expanding as photographers look for new markets and revenue streams. The photographers and studios that will last are the ones who build sustainable business practices into their growth models. Momenta believes in supporting photographers with professional training at all levels. We believe a stronger photographic community means success for everyone. Therefore, we are offering this one day, intensive business skills workshop to help you take your profitability and business practices to the next level.
Our panelists, speakers and lecturers will cover topics that will help each division of your services. From marketing to finance to client relations and products, we will discuss the many ways you can build your business to be more profitable and successful.
Along with the handout materials and lectures, we are providing all pre-registered participants with a copy of John Harrington's Best Business Practices for Photographers. John Harrington is a national asset to photographers who offers professional, tested advice on how to make the best financial decisions to grow your business successfully. His book has been considered the "Bible of Freelance Photography" for many photojournalists and studios since it's first publication.
The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. at a downtown lecture hall in each city. The morning session will cover topics on Marketing, Client Relations, Presenting Your Portfolio and Products. We will break for lunch (not included in program cost) at noon and resume at 1:00 p.m. We pick back up with an amazing panel discussion featuring local wedding planners and industry vendors on the state of the local marketplace. The final part of the day will feature financial and business management lectures for studios.
We look forward to working with you on this next stage in your business development!
Our Panelist & Speakers
We are very excited to announce the lead speaker for the days' events will be Washington, DC photographer and business practices expert John Harrington. For over two decades, John has covered the world of politics, traveled internationally, and negotiated contracts along the way. A 2007 recipient of the United Nations' Leadership Award in the field of photography, Harrington's work has appeared in Time, Newsweek and Rolling Stone, and his commercial clients have included Coca-Cola, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Lockheed Martin, and the National Geographic Society.
Harrington has produced three commissioned books for the Smithsonian and the second edition of his book Best Business Practices for Photographers, remains a best-seller. In the Fall of 2010, a retrospective of the first 20 years in the profession - Photographs from the Edge of Reality, revisited highlights of his career. John has lectured across the United States to events for the American Society of Media Photographers, Advertising Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of America, and the National Press Photographers Association. John will conclude serving his second term as the President of the White House News Photographers Association in May of 2011. His expertise in business skills and studio practices for success are unparalleled and we look forward to his joining the team!
Our keynote speakers will include local wedding and corporate photographer and four-time winner of Wedding Photographer of the Year from Bella Pictures, Ken Carl. Ken brings years of experience to the table and will discuss how he got started in the industry, his growth as a photographer and how he struck out on his own to start his own studio. He will discuss his client relations and how he handles clients with care and consideration to keep them coming back year after year.
Also joining John and Ken will be a panel of local wedding industry businesses to discuss the current state of the East Coast wedding market. With tips on the dos-and-don'ts of the wedding industry as well as ways to get local listings and event venues to recommend you, this panel will help each attendee up their game and get noticed!
