Jaime Windon
Jaime Windon considers herself a chameleon in terms of her career. As she puts it, she started working with rum when she was in college bartending, then she was a photojournalist who drank rum, and she's a rum maker who takes photos of rum, among other things.
Her photography journey began she was thrust into covering political news for The Hill and then other newspapers clients in Washington, DC. In addition to her political assignments, she documented red carpet events, star-studded parties, and black tie affairs with socialites for local and national magazines. However, her desire for telling more intimate stories led her away from photojournalism and into nonprofit, educational, and destination wedding photography.
After leaving Capitol Hill, her business took off. Soon she was documenting weddings in places like Kenya, Mexico, and Bali and coming back to the States to create annual reports and marketing reels for international nonprofit and educational institutions. Her clients include Children's National Medical Center, Bryn Mawr College, The Mayflower Foundation, Kendall Communities, and Hon Fest among others.
In a huge pivot, she took a leap of faith and founded a rum distillery on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Ten years later, Windon Distilling has become one of the most award-winning small distilleries in the region. In addition to being an entrepreneur, she help to found the Maryland Distillers Guild. She also serves as the chair of the Government Affairs Committee, and the Advisory Commission on Maryland Alcohol Manufacturing by Governor Wes Moore. Nationally, she is on the American Craft Spirits Association Board of Directors and the National Small Business Association Leadership Council. In recent years, she served on the the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce and completed two terms as a Town Commissioner in Saint Michaels.
She still works with a select group of favorite photographic clients and now only contracts on projects of which she is really passionate. In her limited free time, she commits to local volunteering, has starred in numerous community theater plays, and as a board member of The Factory Arts Project.
